Record Store Day Black Friday

Yep, we will be participating in RSD Black Friday this year. We will be at our Villa Park location starting at 10AM. As usual, first come, first served. And nope, sorry, we can’t reserve items for you.

Check back here or our Facebook page on Thursday to see the list of items we will have on hand.

Vinyl Night in Glenview 9/1

Just a quick note to let you know that we will be joining our pals at the Rock House in Glenview this Thursday night, September 1st, for their first ever Vinyl Night. We’ll be spinning some of our favorite tunes from 7:30-9:30. Also, all of their used vinyl will be 10% off that night. We’ll be bringing in some extra vinyl as well and that will be 20% off. If you’ve never been to the Rock House before it’s a very cool place. It’s a music school, it’s a coffee/sandwich shop, it’s a concert venue, it’s a record store. Thursday night will be a great time to check it out and see what it’s all about. They are located at 1742 Glenview Rd., Glenview.

Hope to see you there!

The warehouse has been moved!

empty warehouse

Looks strange, right? The records have been moved, we’re settling into our new digs. We should be good to go by the time our next warehouse sale rolls around in August. Check this space for all updates. In the meantime visit us in Villa Park at Cornerstone Used Books. Thousands of records there for your browsing pleasure. Restocked every couple of weeks or so. And open ’til 8PM on Wednesdays for the rest of the summer. Stop on by!

Extended Wednesday Hours This Summer!

We will now be open in Villa Park on Wednesdays until 8PM. So go home after work, have some dinner with the family and then come on out and browse some vinyl!

Last minute warehouse moving sale!

Well, looks like we’re moving warehouses once again. Seems like we do it every couple of years. Keeps us on our toes I reckon. Fortunately we’re only moving a couple of buildings over from our current Schaumburg location. But if you move 300 feet or you move 300 miles you still have to box everything up and load it onto a truck. So the less we have to move the better.

That is why we’re having an unscheduled warehouse sale this Saturday, May 23rd. We will be there from 8AM-1PM. And we’ve got LOTS of new stuff. So new in fact that some of it might not be priced on time. So please bear with us. But it will definitely be worth it. Lots of records that you are going to want to get first dibs at.

Some crazy good deals will be had. Make us an offer. We might surprise you.

You can find us at 700 Albion Ave., Schaumburg. Look for the Ink Well Printing sign. Park in rear, enter through back door.

Hope to see you there!

Warehouse sale plus Record Store Day items!

Record Store Day time and place

Just to clarify, we will be celebrating Record Store Day at our Villa Park location, not at our warehouse in Schaumburg. There seems to be a bit of confusion with some folks.

22 S. Villa Ave., Villa Park. We will be open from 9AM-5PM that day.

Hope to see you there!

When we know, you’ll know.

Record Store Day is just 8 days away. Are you as excited as we are?

And the phone calls have started. “Are you going to have the White Stripes?” “Are you going to have the Grateful Dead?”. And the answer is…we don’t know yet. And unfortunately we won’t know until a day or two before. But as soon as we have the stock in our hands we will be posting a list to this very blog. So check back next Thursday or Friday and you can see what items we will have in stock.

Until then…

Record Store Day just around the corner!

Yep, RSD is less than a month away. Saturday April 18th to be exact. No, we don’t know what records we will have in yet. Needless to say we ordered up a ton. We’ll just have to wait and see what the RSD fairies deliver to us. Check back to this blog in the days leading up to the event. We will post a list of titles as soon as we can.

It is now like a museum…

Belonio Artwork Wall 5

We are super stoked about the new artwork that has been put up in Villa Park. Some of our fave album covers re-imagined by the fab Amy Belonio. Come on out and give them a look in person. They are quite lovely. And if you need a mural for the office or some paintings for a child’s room or whatever, be sure to give Amy a holler: http://www.amybelonioart.shutterfly.com/

Record Store Day Black Friday!

People have been asking. We are answering. Yes, we will be participating in this year’s Record Store Day Black Friday event (November 28th). It will be happening at the Villa Park location (22 S. Villa Ave.). The store will be opening up at 9AM. We are trying our best to get our hands on as many RSD titles as we can. Just because we ordered something doesn’t mean we will be getting it. We won’t know until a couple of days before what we will have in. If we have time we will post the titles we will have available. Check back to our blog closer to the date.

Hope you’ll be able to join us!

We couldn’t agree more…

“One of the great pleasures of traveling for me is finding great used book stores and record shops. I just found a Nellie Lutcher record that included a duet with Nat King Cole. I bought an MFK Fisher book of essays called As They Were that includes stories about two of my favorite subjects–food and California. My intention here is not to recommend specific titles, but to recommend the search for what might appeal to you. Technology has given us a great thing– stores full of orphaned books and vinyl records. There are treasures out there that are difficult to find on line, especially if you don’t know that you’re looking for them. I like the element of fate. The way a book cover or record jacket catches your eye and makes you want to pick it up. I like to think about why certain albums or books survived being discarded and ended up being offered a second life or two or three or four. Most of all, I love finding a singer like Nellie Lutcher for the first time. Happy hunting!” Sam Phillips, singer/songwriter

Remember the time Marc Maron visited?

Last summer we had the pleasure of comedian Marc Maron paying us a visit at the warehouse. If you listen to his WTF podcast or watch his show on IFC you know he’s a big vinyl collector. He was in town last summer for a couple of gigs and had some free time one afternoon so he made the trek out to Schaumburg and did some shopping. Super nice guy. Great taste in music. ’80s Alternative, Blues, Psychedelic, Punk, Classic Rock…he pretty much likes it all.

On a recent episode of his IFC series “Maron” (which is a scripted series, but feels like a documentary because he’s pretty much playing himself) he invited a guy over to check out a new amp he bought for his stereo system. The album he tempted the guy with was Pink Floyd’s “Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”. Take a guess where he picked up that record. That’s right…Cheap Kiss Records! It was pretty cool hearing him talk about that record. We had no idea that was going to be in the episode. Caught us by surprise and brought smiles to our faces. The name of the episode is “White Truck”. Keep an eye out for it.

Keep an eye out for his TV show and an ear out for his podcast in general. Real entertaining stuff.

A Record Store Day Thank You!

A big thanks to everyone that came out for Record Store Day! This was by far our biggest and best one yet. We couldn’t believe it when we showed up an hour before the doors opened and there was already a sizable line. You guys are crazy! In the best possible sense, of course.
Behind the scenes things were a little bit nerve wracking. The last couple of days leading up to RSD we weren’t even sure we were going to have any records! The distributor was having trouble getting orders shipped. This didn’t just affect us. A whole bunch of stores across the country were on pins and needles. Fortunately for us the folks at the local UPS hub worked some magic and got us our order by 8AM that morning. A little too close for comfort, but it all worked out in the end.
We had almost twice as many RSD releases than last year. But we know some people were disappointed that we didn’t have, or we ran out of, the titles they were after. We are sorry about that, but that is the nature of the RSD beast. We would love to make everyone happy, but these items are so limited that it is impossible to do so. We hope you were able to leave with at least one item you were after. If not, then we hope you snagged some good used records that you have been looking for.
Thanks again for your continued support. You guys rock. 359 days until Record Store Day 2015. Keep spinning that vinyl!
